Grim Scythe Houtebeen

Drawn for Skallywaggs card game.

Some pirates are good. Some are bad. Some are in between. Many people avoid the Eye Patch, Hook, and Peg Leg but they shouldn't. They can be well used as a defensive technique. Secure them to fodder characters and they will 'protect' more useful members of your crew.

Grim Scythe Houtebeen is the very opposite of St. Elmo and I attempted to visually make him just that. Imagine my surprise when I found out the pirate game I was making was only going to have one eye patch, one hook, and one peg leg… and they were all going to be on the SAME GUY?!? (Thanks Ben). He's either incredibly unlucky to lose so many body parts, or overly blessed to dodge death that many times.

Houtebeen is Dutch for Peg Leg. It was the nickname of a Dutch Admiral Cornelis Corneliszoon Jol who sported one of these wooden prosthetics.
